Product Description
The greatest battle of the new football season is not between any real world club but between the virtual giants of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. Konami's game has always been the favourite but last year FIFA closed the gap to such a degree that the title race has never been closer. This year's FIFA uses a completely new game engine, for the first time built specifically for the next gen consoles. But improved graphics and animation are only the half of it, with just as much focus going on the artificial intelligence thanks to the new "35 point decision engine". What this basically means is that every player on the pitch is fully aware of those around him and constantly thinking about tactics and position when not under your control. Other changes include better modelled physics for taking a shot on goal, which take into account everything from air pressure to the angle of your foot. You're also able to create your own special moves to replicate every possible trick from real life. There are also new game modes including Be A Pro which challenges you to play the role of a single player through a whole season or career. On top of this there are revamped online leagues to play a virtual season in the Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division against real opponents. With 620 licensed teams, 30 offline leagues and 15,000 players as well FIFA might just have made enough new signings this year to put it over the top. Harrison Dent

the fifa games are rubbish in comparison to madden. The be a pro mode is useless as you can only do one game, whereas superstar mode on madden is much better as you can do a whole career and you just do your player. i have both fifa 08 and madden nfl 08 and i can honestly say that fifa pales in comparison. Franchise mode is 10 times better than manager mode.

i have been a fifa fan for all these years. i had got all the games even when my friends said i should stop buying them and get pro evo. my friends were right. i had really enjoyed the earlier ones like fifa 2003/4/5 beacause the game flow wasnt so stiff. when you changed direction it was smooth, same as all the gameplay. but since fifa 06, onwards the shot mechanics are poor, same unrealistic shot every time. when they run their arms look very stupid and you cant aim freekicks or corners with an arrow anymore. the goalpost vibration dosen't help. unlike the pro evo series where the shooting varies between what player you are. (ronaldinho will shoot like ronaldinho) and the dribbling is very smooth. i will still get the fifa games because i dont like to wait for the next football action. but i woulod reccomend the pro series.
Disappointed, 31 Jul 2008
I have to say that when I brought this game it was mainly because I was curious to see how it had succeeded Fifa 07. It doesn't. There are a few changes and a few add-ons but nothing to what I expected. It almost feels like the game has taken a step backwards. Fifa 07 I think is the best game for originality I have ever played and unfortunatly the fun factor has totally been stripped from Fifa 08. It is actually boring to play a game which lasts about 15 mintues, regardless of what game settings you have it on. I really am not surprised there are so many used copies available, (75 used today). Utter disappointment and the creators should be ashamed. Tut tut disgraceful.

I am a massive fan of EA games and the fifa series.Fifa 08 is one of the best games that i own,but to be honest with you,i think it's getting to the point, where EA are focusing more on the ps3 and xbox 360, as there seems to be a lot more that you can do on the newer consoles. However i still love this game, and would recommend it to anyone.

Had to buy it twice as my play keeps scratching the cd, 17 Jun 2008
Yes, it was that good i had to buy it again as my play just loves to scratch the cd, it goes into overburn.
The controls are much better than 04, but the game still lacks something. it takes ages to finish a season, transfering players could be better

Terrible, 20 Jul 2008
Whilst the game looks good and has features which could make the game fun, the absolutely awful camera/visibility makes the game frustrating and almost impossible to play. Trying to jump on ledges is so difficult because you cannot rotate the camera 360 degrees to see where you want to go. A big disappointment.

this is an excellent game with wierd yet fascinating graphics and characters
although i love this game, it just dosen't give the spark to every game players heart, this just dosen't go the extra mile
Random... but in a good way, 02 Mar 2008
The Simpsons game is, admitidly, not as good as hit and run, the predeccesor to this game. However, it offers a wide variety of game play, ranging from ww2, to a world devoted to video games. The powers of the charicters are great, especially Homers. Although it does not let you roam free like hit and run, it makes up for this with an intresting storyline and extra footage. I would reccomend this game for anyone who likes the simpsons, and wants to play somthing new. Although I got this on my 14th bday in august, I still havn't completed it.
BIN IT!, 18 Feb 2008
OMG! What a nightmare. The graphic on the game is terrible. You'll find yourself not able to see where you're going at the most crucial times no matter which way they turn. We've also got the Nintendo DS version and find that much better then the PS2 version.
If you're considering buying this game, don't!
oh the irony..., 11 Feb 2008
The irony is this game is rated 12+ yet I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over 12 years old. I hate this game and I wish I'd never bought it.
Biggest annoyances:
any game levels with Lisa in them (boring!)
repetitive annoying game play
characters saying the same things over and OVER
poor humour
Good bits:
Homer (any bits with Homer) and fighting Bender(s) and Bart's gliding ability (upgraded).

WHERES FREE ROAM GONE!, 21 Jun 2008
Im a big fan of NFS i loved carbon and most wanted BUT THIS! prostreet is horrible the cars handleings gone all lumpy and THERES NO FREE ROAM or POLICE PURSUITS has ea been taken over or something! But there are good things like The grafics and the fact that the new bmw m3 and nissan GTR are in it! BUT BUY NEED FOR SPEED CARBON OTHER THAN THIS if yourve played carbon and most wanted you will HATE prostreet
Bring back the old NFS, 03 Jun 2008
Arguably the second worst NFS game after Underground. EA Bring back the street racing, police chases and FREE ROME. I would normally test a car in single player random race to see if its worth buying- you cannot do this so i wasted about 400k on the Lambo only to find out that it is rubbish!
I only found this game good for the first hour or so then i got frustrated with waited for it to load/save! the actual driving experience is average but you should be able to use a 4 wheel drive in drifting as the evo x is AMAZING at drifting in grip mode.
Get you're act together EA and don't call the next game Pro-street 2 unless you can actually DRIVE on the street!
Well, what a waste, 28 Feb 2008
I got it for my birthday last november (07) and at first I found it o.k.
i completed the first raceday, but, after that it got worse and worse. The loading screen does get rather annoying after a while and the racing itself isn't that sparkling either.
Final point, the actual career progression as well is too slow, unless u have lots of time. Personally i got to the first main tournament and it took me a week to finish that (battle machine).
in short, get the first 3 NFS and complete them before trying this 1.
Don't bother to buy this game, 20 Feb 2008
Having played NFSU2, I believed this later version to be just as good if not better. How wrong I was. The realism of the vehicles is appalling, the general interface is appalling, the whole game is downright appalling. There are very few games I would recommend less.
This is by far the WORST driving game I have ever played.
I grew up playing GT2, rocked out of my face at uni, the game that all future driving games are benchmarked against and this games is MOST DEFINITELY A STEP BACKWARDS. It is so fing awful I regret departing money to play it. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
Just does NOT deserve the Need For Speed title it has!, 17 Feb 2008
Having played NFS Carbon to the end, I bought this game looking forward to more of the same (but obviously with different tracks, cars, etc). However, EA have decided, for some weird reason, to take NFS off the street and onto boring, repetitive race courses, totally defeating the original point of the game. The fact that you have to have different cars for each race is very annoying and EA should have just stuck to the any car for any race sort of theme in all the other NFS games. Obviously, due to the fact that the races are now held on courses, there are no police, which was one of the things that made the other games so good. The saddest thing about this game is that the game play is not actually that bad and can be quite enjoyable, but it is definately not what you expect from a NFS game. I just hope that the next NFS game goes back to something more like NFS Carbon.

Product Description
While Electronic Arts' other sports games may be locked in a deadly rivalry with their competitors there really hasn't been a golf sim to go head-to-head with Tiger Woods for years. There doesn't seem to be too much laurel sitting going on though, especially since this is, like many Electronic Arts games this year, the first time the game has been designed specifically with the next generation of consoles in mind. Naturally that means the most realistic graphics yet, not only for the course itself but also for Tiger and the other real-world golfers. Their faces and expressions look totally life-like and on the PS3 and 360 you can use a webcam or digital camera to import your own face and graft it to your own in-game custom golfer. In terms of gameplay the major new feature is the concept of "shot confidence" which monitors your performance through your whole career, adding an extra degree of tension to difficult shots but also allowing you to examine your game in detail to find out where you're going right and wrong. After criticisms that last year's game was a bit thin on options this new game has the greatest number of courses ever including Westchester Country Club, TPC Boston, Cog Hill and East Lake. There's also the expanded GamerNet mode which acts like a sort of YouTube just for the game, allowing you post in-game videos and challenge other people to a game in an online world dedicated to nothing but golf. Putting is really not very difficult., 30 May 2008
I find it strange that some people are berating the putting feature of the game. I really don't see how it could be any better, and as for people saying it is impossible I really don't see how. If anything the optional Putt Preview option makes putting ridiculously easy - I don't see how you could miss. Perhaps people who have complained have not liked the transition from older TW games where the putting was different - my advice would be to practice and you should easily get the hang of it.
I had never played a golf game before (they don't exactly sound like fun do they?) I played Tiger Woods '06 a couple of years ago. It is a brilliant game in single and especially multiplayer format so I decided to buy Tiger Woods '08. There are some slight changes to '08, most noticeable is that the toggle stick is more sensitive to a non-straight swing making it a bit harder which is a good thing (or perhaps I've lost the ability to swing straight?).
'08 is more comprehensive than '06. There are a few new features which make it easier to iron out any imperfections in your game. The game will tell you which are your weakest holes/shot types and give you the option to play these shots over again without having to set up a course, etc. Very user friendly.
While playing a round you can also see a record of how you previously played your current hole, where exactly the ball landed after each shot. Personally I think this makes the game too easy, but the option is there and probably worth using when you're still getting to grips with the game.
The Game Face feature where you can make your own player that looks exactly like you is fantastic and is a great way to take the p out of your mates. You can even design your own stance and swing. EA have thought of everything.
Tiger Woods 08 is definately an improvement on 07 version, 09 Jan 2008
I found the the new Tiger Woods 08 much much improved on the 07 version. I found it much easier to get more power on the drives and the graphics are certainly much improved. The new Putting preview is good once you get used to it.
Overall I am very pleased with the game which is far better than the previous version.
Glad my wife saved me on this one....., 10 Dec 2007
.....but no thanks to the negative reviews on here though!
Having played 2003(think it was 2003) to death, stats showed around 27 holes in one and average score of around 50, and then thoroughly enjoying TW 2005, I was gutted to see the scathing reviews for 2008, so chose not to buy it.
However, to help my recovery following an operation in early November, Dear wife bought me TW 2008. Took me a couple of days to even bother picking it up as the reviews on here were so bad...
How wrong they all were.
The reason people are not liking this game...... CHANGE!
EA have dared mess with their usual putting engine and admittedly it looked all a bit confusing at first. Stick with it though and you'll find it 100% more intuitive than the old method and equally rewarding.
The only reason I mentioned average scores and holes in TW 2003 earlier was to show just how many hours of my life over the last 5 years had been taken up with TW Golf and whilst I only have 2005 to use as a benchmark for comparison I can say that 2008 beats it easily.
A bigger challenge and initially a bit awkward, but once you scratch the surface it's a winner. Had they used the same old tried and trusted formula then maybe it would have a safe 4 stars from everyone but ultimately the game would be mastered within 10 hours. This time they've dared to shake it up a bit and it's a good move.
The only slight gripe i have (which still doesn't detract from the 5 stars) is that one the occasional Tiger challenge (a skins game I think)you need to play a fourball which does drag whilst you wait for the other 3 players to take their shots....
Other than that, top notch
EA Sports - Get a Grip, 09 Dec 2007
I began playing this game in 2004 and 2005 and played successfully through to a finish. This game began to go downhill in 2006 and was worse in 2007 and ended up selling both fairly quickly.
I decided I wouldn't waste my money this year but I got it in a gift and quickly came to the conclusion it was still going downhill. There is not much point playing the game if the cannot finish. If you strike the ball cleanly off the tee and hit the second shot onto the green the most important shot is to put the ball in the hole but the putting feature is an absolute nightmare. Thank goodness I didn't buy it.
EA Sports need to sit up and take notice of what customers say on their website about this game and make it great AGAIN because there is no doubt this was the best golf game available when first released and all EA are concerned is ripping off the customers year after year after year.
Come on EA Sports - Get a grip
2005 is far superior, 09 Nov 2007
I couldn't wait for this game to come out and i am VERY disappointed with it. There are no legend challenges and the putting is way to hard compared to the 2005 version. graphics are good but so are 2005's and the game face is not as detailed. It is too hard to win money and the swing controls are way too sensitive. avoid it unless you are the tiger woods of the computer world!

madden, 16 Aug 2008
the fifa games are rubbish in comparison to madden.
Don't waste your money get madden
nothing new, 14 Aug 2008
i have been a fifa fan for all these years. i had got all the games even when my friends said i should stop buying them and get pro evo. my friends were right. i had really enjoyed the earlier ones like fifa 2003/4/5 beacause the game flow wasnt so stiff. when you changed direction it was smooth, same as all the gameplay. but since fifa 06, onwards the shot mechanics are poor, same unrealistic shot every time. when they run their arms look very stupid and you cant aim freekicks or corners with an arrow anymore. the goalpost vibration dosen't help. unlike the pro evo series where the shooting varies between what player you are.
Tut tut disgraceful.
i love this game, but..., 24 Jun 2008
I am a massive fan of EA games and the fifa series.Fifa 08 is one of the best games that i own,but to be honest with you,i think it's getting to the point, where EA are focusing more on the ps3 and xbox 360, as there seems to be a lot more that you can do on the newer consoles. However i still love this game, and would recommend it to anyone.
:D 5 stars
Hasn't Got The Spark, 27 Mar 2008
i am a child of 12 and i have just bought this game yesterday
this is an excellent game with wierd yet fascinating graphics and characters
although i love this game, it just dosen't give the spark to every game players heart, this just dosen't go the extra mile
Random... but in a good way, 02 Mar 2008
Other than that, top notch

not carbon but gold!, 12 Aug 2008
this is a good and enjoyable instalment to the need for speed franchise it has some good cars and dubbing abilities and accesories the races are fairly easy but some of the new canyon races will have you pulling your hair out. also the last boss is nearlly unbeatable but stick at it and you will do it..Tom
Fun but Disappointing, 20 Apr 2008
I got Carbon after loving most wanted, thinking it would be just as good if not better. Sadly, I was wrong.
The new race types are cool and the autosculpt feature is brilliant, despite you not being able to autosculpt AND use bodykits.
Graphics are decent and gameplay's good.
BUT. The storyline is fantastic, but it just fizzles out without an ending. Most Wanted had a brilliant finale, but on Carbon you beat the final boss and that's it, no final police chase despite there being an undercover cop in the racer's mist. I hope they'll bring this storyline back and end it properly!
Don't expect too much from this game, it's decent, but that's about it. Make sure you're prepared to be disappointed.
Come on Need For Speed! You can do better than this!
Good, 18 Apr 2008
This is a good game to play on the career mode, and good for police chases, which are ridiculous but brilliant. I would say if in doubt buy it but it's not the best racing game around, burnout is far more fun, as crashes are more easily made large and explosive. only 4 stars-****
its fun, 10 Oct 2007
i agree with other reviewers that the same old bodykits are boring but there are other aspects that are more fun
police chases
my first NFS game was underground 2.
you can only race so many street racers before you have to get on with your career and no police
most wanted
i like the inclusion of police chases but you are very limited with the graphics on your cars
carbon
police chases
multi layered graphics
exact choice of colours
race events as many times as you like
challenges and rewards
the only disappointment with this game is the lack of things to mod. you cant change as much as you can in carbon but i can live with that. the police chases are my biggest attraction to this one. i dont like track games and without the police, games are boring. there is something strangely satisfying about ramming a cop car and sending it flying while you floor it away from the next one who chases you
combine the extra mods and cop cars and you will have a fantastic game. come on EA, lets see it
NFS CARBON, 01 Oct 2007
i though that NFS carbon was o.k,but i was dissapointed as NFS most wanted was so good, if you ever should get it, it should be for the sake of collecting them all. NFS most wanted is the best, but if u want costomizeation get NFS2.
NFS carbon is a good time killer for if you have mates round but hardly anything else.
get NFS Most Wanted!!! and you will be set untill the newest NFS is out

The last Madden game I bought for Playstation 2 was 06, and I thought I'd get this one, because, surely over the last 3 years they've made some dramatic changes to keep the game fresh and worth the money.
Not so.
Madden 09 is basically Madden 06 with a few extra Off-Season tweaks and gang tackles while playing the game. Seriously, you'd be better off buying an Xbox 360 and buying the game for that console - it looks so much better with more options.
I guess PS2 must be outdated then . . .

nothing new, 14 Aug 2008
i have been a fifa fan for all these years. i had got all the games even when my friends said i should stop buying them and get pro evo. my friends were right. i had really enjoyed the earlier ones like fifa 2003/4/5 beacause the game flow wasnt so stiff. when you changed direction it was smooth, same as all the gameplay. but since fifa 06, onwards the shot mechanics are poor, same unrealistic shot every time. when they run their arms look very stupid and you cant aim freekicks or corners with an arrow anymore. the goalpost vibration dosen't help. unlike the pro evo series where the shooting varies between what player you are.
Tut tut disgraceful.
i love this game, but..., 24 Jun 2008
I am a massive fan of EA games and the fifa series.Fifa 08 is one of the best games that i own,but to be honest with you,i think it's getting to the point, where EA are focusing more on the ps3 and xbox 360, as there seems to be a lot more that you can do on the newer consoles. However i still love this game, and would recommend it to anyone.
:D 5 stars
It is too hard to win money and the swing controls are way too sensitive. avoid it unless you are the tiger woods of the computer world!
not carbon but gold!, 12 Aug 2008
this is a good and enjoyable instalment to the need for speed franchise it has some good cars and dubbing abilities and accesories the races are fairly easy but some of the new canyon races will have you pulling your hair out. also the last boss is nearlly unbeatable but stick at it and you will do it..Tom

The newer the machine the less chance this works., 20 Jun 2008
Like another reviewer that can't get this to run on their quad core machine, I cannot get this to run on a Nvidia SLI based machine.
I have spent hours going through the EA helpdesks suggestions to get this to work, but basically it hasn't been tested on SLI and just crashes on start-up.
Bottom line, if you have a high spec machine that Rugby 08 should look wonderful on, you won't even see the splash screen.
HMPH, 18 Apr 2008
If, like me your favourite part of the EA Rugby series is World league mode DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!
The main reason for this is you can only have a maximum of 5 impact players in your squad! I KNOW!
There has been virtually no effort to improve the rosters except for making a few more impact players.
There is no try scoring bonus so making money is much harder.
I would not recomend this game if you have rugby 06 already(though the graphics and camera angles are better). If you dont have rugby 06, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!?!?!
fun to play but seems unfinished, 11 Apr 2008
I found the game to be enjoyable to play and I haven't got tired of playing it. There are several small things which I think let the game down:
-One can ONLY play the 2007 world cup (i.e. starting from 2007 world cups). This is especially frustrating as one can have random a Six Nations. Why not have a custom tournament?
-The process of substitution is really clunky. One has to ever so slowly select down to the person who one wants to substitute and then, slowly, scroll down through the rest of the team and however many substitutions before getting to the right player. The epitome of this mess is manual squad selection for tournaments wherein to get to, say, the scrum halfs one has to scroll through every single forward of that nationality first!
-No British Lions?
-It's kind of a shame that the classic games teams are actually composed of contemporary players!
-Minimal statistics. You only ever know how many points a player has scored, their points kicking in the game, and whether they were cautioned or not. No Man Of The Match award.
-Poor AI? With a pretty good team like England it becomes quite straightforward to even beat better teams. The computer can't resist
giving away offside penalties.
-Strange business of a player played even slightly out of position becoming a complete wreck.
-Lame, irritating menu music. Who listens to this stuff on purpose?!
Poor, really poor., 11 Apr 2008
1.Practically no better that Rugby 06 - cashing in on the 07 RWC.
2.Still infuriating that turnovers are decided at random, and therefore the impact of a tight forward units in turning over possession or retaining momentum is lost.
3. In fact on this basis, why bother having forwards with their own "physical characteristics" at all? since they have exactly the same chance of giving posession away as a fey winger? As a player, your best bet is to avoid taking the ball into a tackle, and keep kicking into touch. Pathetic.
4.As a sarries fan, it irks me that De Kock isn't on the roster, I can't play Ratuvou on the wing (or Leonelli for that matter),Farrell is still listed as a No.7, that the commentary name for Adam Powell is "Randell" (as in Taine), and generally, there are massess and massess of misspelt player names and positions in all the national and club sides.
5. Squads are out of date - and it appears that player ratings have been decided based on the informed opinion of the Leigh-on-Sea knitting circle.
6. Set pieces are poorly executed and very slow, there is no ability to play on the gain line (as passes are always deep).
7. Drop goals are impossible.
8. Lions tour is now out (shame)
WASTE OF MONEY.
The best Rugby game... Still not perfect, 02 Mar 2008
Rugby 08 is a good PS2 game and is the best Rugby game there is (in my opinion).
Pros:
Improved Kicking
Fluid Gameplay
Good Set Plays which include Pocket, Cross Kick, Miss and Dummy Switch
Challenge Mode which allows you to play in Historic Matches and complete objectives to earn rewards.
World Cup 2007 Mode - Play in the 2007 Rugby World Cup
Good Soundtrack
Cons:
Line-outs - although line-outs being called not straight at random times is realistic, it can be infuriating as it seems to happen at crucial times in matches (eg. when you have a line-out in the opponents 22 in the closing moments)
Slow Menus - selecting and changing players can be such a bore because of how long it takes to go down through a list of players
Lack of Realism in certain teams - Some teams such as Fiji, Samoa and Tonga aren't licensed (N.Little for example is called N.Large in the game). Also, even teams such as Italy and Argentina have players who have too low ratings and there is a bias in ratings towards British teams and Ireland. Argentina and Italy have one star player between them while Wales and Ireland have 4 or 5.
Overall, despite it's flaws, Rugby 08 is well worth buying although maybe now it's worth waiting until the next EA Sports Rugby game comes out.
