A must have, 10 Nov 2008
I have been hooked to this game since purchasing it. The level of difficulty is just right, and the storyline and "whats behind this door" aspect keep you coming back.
As others have said, the graphics are stunning. In places, such as when you walk on to the bridge for the first time, I just looked at the screen and thought wow as you looked out over the planet into space with the asteroids hurtling towards you. The enemies are genuinely scary, the number of times I have not wanted to open a door for fear of what is making the noise behind it. The sound effects are excellent, there are times when you actually feel afraid walking down a corridor because you can hear the creatures scuttling down the vents in the roof.
Controls and gameplay are spot on. I'm now up to level 8 where difficulty is really starting to ramp up. You really do need to know how to use your different weapons and the weak spots on the different types of enemy. Its a truely atmospheric game, and dare I say, perfect in every way from the point of view of a good horror sci-fi game.
For me this is one of those must have games up there with COD4 and GTA4. Well done EA!
Space Ace, 09 Nov 2008
If you own a PS3 or Xbox, like survival horrors and want to play a genuinely scary and atmospheric game then you should look no further than Dead Space. I've had my eye on this for ages but to be quite honest I was expecting it to be a complete let down as it was made by Electronic Arts themselves and lets face it the only thing they're well known for is sports games nowadays. However, it seems they are turning over a new leaf.
First of all there will be lots of comparisons to Resident Evil 4 (which, was stunning on the Gamecube and my last Gen fave) and quite rightly so, but Dead Space only seems to take the good bits, build on them and then throw in loads of it's own fresh new innovative ideas. The Zero G moments genuinely are really cool.
Storywise it holds up quite solidly and will remind you of all sorts of films based in space. The graphics are stunning and along with the quite frankly perfect sound effects help to create a seriously cinematic atmosphere. A special mention has to be given to the lighting effects, which are thrown around so generously and look so smart that you'll find yourself looking back at things to check them out.
If you found the original Alien Vs Predator on the PC or Atari Jaguar nerve racking to play then this will certainly raise your heart rate and make you jump.
As far as people saying that this isn't all that scary then I suggest they play it on a big TV with all the surround sound cranked up and the lights turned off. There is no HUD in the games so you feel part of the game. It puts the recent Resident Evils to shame in the Scare factor.
Although Resi 5 will no doubt be another awesome game, it's certainly got some very strong competition here. Just hope EA don't go and give it a yearly update and create another cash cow bore.
Frighteningly great start to a new horror series, 06 Nov 2008
I'm a fan of survival horror games and must say that dead space is a great addition - it's s truly scary game for the most part with copious amounts of blood, great atmosphere, excellent use of sound, terrifying foes and some truly fun weapons. It does feel a bit contrived and eventually becomes just a go here, press this button, get attacked, move on type affair which could do with a bit more variation, but this is at least as scary as the RE series and a series that can run and run. Many people have said this is all cobbled together from great sci fi - how can that be a disappointment! I loved Event Horizon, I loved Alien - I love this game and I love the Rip saw weapon!
Dead Space - a great game!, 31 Oct 2008
I was suprised how much I'm enjoying playing this game. It's not very original but very well done. The graphics are some of the best so far on the PS3. The lighting effects are brilliant. The sound is also impressive. Overall a great buy!

Turn the lights off and the volume up on a big hdtv and this is probably the scariest game ever. Like being in a horror movie.

I thought this game would be good and it is but... not really my thing, sure its great value for money with 5 separate features at a great price but the puzzle solving and the long complex ghoulish levels are a pain and very annoying at times. The game play i will say however is very entertaining and is darn good fun but can be repetitive.
best compilation of the best games ever made., 13 Aug 2008
this game is so awesome because there is 5 of the best games on the market, the best being team fortress 2 which is a war game where you can choose from about 10 different classes, half life 2, episode 1 and episode 2 are all games where youre running around shooting either army men or zombies that are willing to tear your face off.
portal is a puzzle game where you are trying to escape from a scientific lab called apature science whith this crazy robot that is trying to murder you, as you go along it taunts and insults you by telling you that you murdered the companion cube which is a box with a heart on it and that you have no friends.
well thought out and atmospheric shooter, 06 Jun 2008
In response to the two critisisms made against this game.
1. Graphics. Half Life two looks dated compared to COD4 etc. Personally I enjoyed the older look of half life two and the interesting level design more than made up for this. Any frame rate issues were minimal and again outweighed by the superb gameplay. episode one and two have improved graphics.
2. Empty levels. The main game does have one or two levels where there is a feeling of a large space travelled between objectives, but this provides a sense of scale and atmosphere and personally I like a variety in the intensity of action. Episodes one and two are more concentrated which in a way is a shame.
I have been playing Orange box for weeks now and love it. It has maintaned my interest and I have a sense of having been on a journey. The sound is excellent, and the puzzels add interest and challenge. I temporarily got stuck in one or two areas , but solving these problems was a case of using my brain and being inventive rather than frustrating multiple attempts at shooting things. This game makes a refreshing change from mindless first person shooters and awful film tie ins that seem to flood the market. This is class. The only critisism is that the non player characters sometimes get in the way. very minor gripe.
Amazing!, 13 Apr 2008
If you want an FPS with a story (and one that's revealed in-game, rather than using cut-scenes), totally immersive levels, incredible variety and one of the best 'weapons' ever, then you need The Orange Box.
So far as the PS3 version is concerned, there was a recent patch (which will be downloaded if you're online when you load the disc) that may have addressed most of the frame-rate issues. In HL2 at least (I've yet to play the other parts), it only stutters a bit occasionally when there is a lot going on. I have HL2 on my PC, and the graphics, if anything, are a bit better on the PS3.
The PS3 version also has a quick save feature, just like the PC version, which is great! Unfortunately, it takes about 30 seconds to reload when you die, which may not sound much but if you keep dying at a difficult point in the game it gets very frustrating! Not sure why this happens, but it seems to be reloading the whole level again (I don't know if the 360 version is the same, if not then maybe it's because Valve didn't convert it to the PS3 themselves?).
Still, this should not be enough to put you off - HL2 is one of the finest games ever created!
Unrivalled, 10 Apr 2008
I have seen some reviewers on here slating the game because it doesnt look as pretty as COD4 or some other game, or that its just a port of a three year old PC game. People like this are the problem with gaming nowadays, why we get tripe like Turok or Assassins Creed that looks amazing but fails to hold the attention for long over the initial wow factor. When did modern gamers forget that what made all great games great, was the way they played and their longevity. Half Life 2 may not look as good as COD4, but it still looks damn good, has far more variety and is gripping throughout, with an amazing story. I feel that console owners have been moaning for years about not getting the quality of FPS shooter that the PC gets, then they get the Daddy of them all and they moan cause they want the pretty, but dull games back instead. Get a grip people, realise how blessed you are to play this masterpiece of a Game, and get stuck into it, then you will understand. And as for multiplayer, stop complaining about the cartoony graphics and realise that team fortress practically invented the modern online game and is unbeatable in every way. Throw in the extra episodes and the brilliant Portal as well, and frankly, your an idiot if you dont own this game.

Product Description
If there really isn't any such thing as bad publicity then Mercenaries 2 is already doing superbly. It certainly already has its fair share of infamy, after being denounced by the Venezuelan government as propaganda for the U.S. Army and even dragging Bono (who part owns developer Pandemic) into a row over its probity. Mind you North Korea weren't too keen about the first game either and that turned out all right. The reason poor Bono's name has been dragged into the dirt is that the game's plot revolves around a U.S. led invasion of Venezuela after a dictator takes control in a coup. It's pretty hard to get offended about a game as gleefully silly as this though as its interests are clearly not politics but simply blowing things up as creatively as possible. As before you're dropped into the war zone and free to ply your mercenary trade with whomever you want. However, this time you're in charge of your own PMC (Private Military Company) and get to set up your own base and recruit your own soldiers. Owning your own PMC gives you a lot more control over how exactly you play the game in what is essentially Grand Theft Auto in a warzone. Everything you see can be completely destroyed from innocuous shrubbery to be the biggest buildings. You can now swim as well and there's lot more vehicles and gadgets, from helicopters to grappling hooks. With an online co-op mode as well even Hugo Chávez couldn't fail to be entertained (maybe). Harrison DentMercenaries 2: World in Flames is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world.

What happened?, 27 Oct 2008
If I could sum up this game in a single word it would be 'Disappointment'. After waiting for this game for so very long and seeing release date after release date slip past you would have thought the game would be more polished than a door knob in Buckingham Palace. Sadly, however, this is not the case as some folk even claim that the game has not changed in the slightest since they play tested it 6 months before the release. The game starts off as quite a hoot as you go around blowing everything and anything up but the small annoying bugs start to creep in until you notice so many you just want to launch the disc into the air and shoot it out of frustration. I have lost count of the times my vehicle has exploded for no reason what so ever. The voice acting is amazingly annoying with various soundbites being repeated until I have actualyl shouted at the character to shut the hell up! The only good thing to say about the voices is it's always awesome to hear Peter Stomare. Cooperative play would have been this games saving grace but they've even managed to mess that up too. You can't travel around the map independantly of one another and this is due, according to the developers themselves, to how much power would be required to do this. If Grand Theft Auto 4 can do it (and in better detail too), why not this game? There are too many annoyances to list here and while the developers are promising patches to fix this they have already slipped past one patch release date without so much of a comment. This game looks like it'll be great but just falls flat on it's bum (and will probably explode for no reason with any luck). A lot of things in this game should have been ironed out with basic playtesting and it just feels unfinished. It reminds me of when the last Carmegeddon was released; hyped to eyeball bleeding levels but all that was given to us was an unfinished mess that was as much fun as shaving your grandmother's wayward facial hair.
The only positive things I have to say about this is that it is fun to be in the Anaconda (Hind) and that the rebel tanks look great. Oh, and you can also switch it off.
Save youself the hassle of trading this in. Buy yourself something better.
Most fun on the next gen console so far! , 23 Oct 2008
I think I am not as critical of this game as some of the other reviews as I never played the original. For me this is a brand new game...... and what a good one! The closest game to this is GTA, however it is also totally different. You can free roam, have missions to complete, but that's where the similarity ends. A seemingly endless selection of weapons and vehicles which you can use to kill, destroy and generally cause as much havoc with as you can possibly imagine! (MOAB's are great fun!) The vehicles and weapons are pretty easy to use and with lots of side contracts, you can just veer away from the main storyline and just keep blowing things up as much as you like. Had it less than a week, and completed it last night, this game has caused many a late night! My only criticisms are that I have found a few annoying bugs where a HVT 'disappears', buildings blow up and you cant get out and buildings that are totalled still show as not destroyed, and the last 2 missions are maybe a bit too easy, especially compared to some of the ones in the middle of the game, but these are not nearly enough of an issue to move it away from 5 stars! (and I haven't even played online yet!)
Oh Dear!!!, 12 Oct 2008
Ok, the first Mercenaries was great when you first loaded it up. You were in a world where you could just blow anything and everything up, when and how you wanted.
Then, after a good few hours of play you started to think, 'ok, so is this it. Have I already seen and found all of the weapons and vehicles...!!?'. Of course as you progressed bit by bit you may be able to have access to a new tank or something, but frankly you're already bored. Fact is, Mercenaries is great fun in small doses. Otherwise the reality that mercenaries was a limited game at best with the same thing over and over again hit you.
Unfortunately the second game is no different. There really isn't anything new about the game to be perfectly honest. Yes, its set in a new surrounding, yes there are some new vehicles and weapons etc.... but quite frankly thats what you expect.
You don't buy a sequel thinking, 'no, nothing will have changed, nothing at all' and then start playing and to your delight find a new rifle. No, you expect that from a sequel, it's a given. So you expect more than just a few new rifles and vehicles. You expect much better gameplay, better game physics, superior graphics and excellent cut-scenes and voice acting. Mercenaries 2 really doesn't deliver on any of those fronts.
The graphics are nothing special. I've seen original Xbox games with better graphics.
The voice acting is ok, i won't say it's bad because it isn't. It's certainly not great though.
The gameplay is same old same old.
The story is weak and frankly needs a lot more work. It just feels that there's no drive to complete anything. You are just doing these petty missions for the hell of it. Every single enemy camp or High Value Target base looks exactly the same!
Overall a very average game, and very disappointing.
No where near as good as the first one, 29 Sep 2008
First off is the graphics are like a good ps2 game, first hour I spent on it and I completed it 20% so its not a long game straight off, I was really looking forward to this game as the first mercenaries was brilliant couldn't stop playing it, but they have really lost this game, having more space on a disc is for a reason look at mgs brilliant game crisp graphics and exellent gameplay mgs is what make's me keep my ps3 because when a good title comes out it make it all worth wile, so in short save you 30-40 quid and by something better
Also I'm making it a rule from now on never to buy a ps3 game that has been released on a ps2, the only one that has worked is half life2
one word Amazing!, 26 Sep 2008
This game is amazing there is so many vehicles and weapons and the missions are good also the map is huge and destructible. I especially like the co-op feature.
A must buy for the ps3.

5/5, 30 Oct 2008
Turn the lights off and the volume up on a big hdtv and this is probably the scariest game ever. Like being in a horror movie.
OK OK OK , 17 Nov 2008
Good fun, 23 Oct 2008
Waited for this to come down in price as was a bit unsure. As a big Simpsons fan, was hoping this would be good. I am not a fan of ladders and levels either, so this had to do a lot to convince me. In the end, I am enjoying this. The good points are the characters with real voices, the depth of the game and a lot of the thought gone into it (with loads of cliche's and references to former episodes). However I am suprised how difficult some of these levels are, especially as aimed at kids. The bad points are the camera can get annoying and stuck at certain points, and sometimes for some reasons the graphics change to look like a child drew them. Considering that most of the game is crystal clear, this suprises me quite a lot. All in all, worth a purchase at the new price. 4 stars at the new price, 3 at full price :-)
Average, 19 Apr 2008
This game is average has some good and bad points, get the game if you like simpsons
Fun, but too short and hardly next-gen, 27 Mar 2008
Let me be blunt - this is not really a PS3 game; it's a PS2 game with better resolution. This shows up particularly when you swap characters in the main Springfield hub, the whole level reloads and does so off the disc. The hard-drive remains untouched seemingly even for caching of the current level and so you sit twiddling your thumbs watching the loading screen. It really puts you off changing characters or restarting a level.
The camera too can be problematic, swinging around mid-jump or resetting itself while you're manipulating it and trying to move at the same time.
But for all its faults it's still fun; the between level movies retain the humour of the show and the in-game comments don't become too repetitive. It's just fun roaming around these levels, with only the occasional frustration of trying to get from A to B when the camera changes or you're not exactly sure which way you're going to be moving.
Still the main game is too short, even with hunting down the optional extras and playing the time challenges. Once you've finished it and unlocked all the content just treat it as something to dip in and out of and you won't be that disappointed.
Too easy, 28 Feb 2008
Its a great game and really fun but... It is sooo easy to complete and there are only 16 levels. I completed it in about nine days only playing about 1 hour a day !!!

Do not buy., 19 Oct 2008
Although I knew from previous reviews that the amount of single player gameplay was limited, I bought this game to play online. I finished the campaign mode in one evening and was looking forward to joining friends online that had bought the game recently for the same reason. However, we could not connect. I contacted the EA support line and they told me that the servers are down - that was a week ago. I would say that £30 is fairly expensive for one evening of gameplay and we're going to trade this back-in as there is no date from EA for the servers being available.
SHORT BUT FREAKIN SWEET, 14 Sep 2008
I bought AO2 a while ago and was well impressed. Im still having fun thanks to the online gaming, despite the glitches. You follow tyson rios and elliot salem, a pair of armored, double hard mercanaries with fully custom weapons. The graphics are stunning as is the gameplay. You can sneak around enimies while the other player distracts them and permorm melee attacks - normally a skull fracturing headbutt among a few others. Also theres the weapons ranging from pistols and SMGs to grenade launchers and miniguns, all customiseable and pimped out. The story mode although short is great 2 player and can be played through a few times before it gets boring. The online game if youre patient is fantasic, but massively let down by crappy EA server, 'cross region play not supported' comes up when i try to play my mate who lives less than a mile away, which is just stupid. Its not all bad because 'quick match' is still pretty extreme and can be played 2 player split-screen online. Overall Id recommend this to anyone PS3 or 360. There better be a sequel out sometime soon.
Short and Sweet., 09 Sep 2008
If you like 3rd person shooter this game is a real good buy. The graphics are good, the campaign is great and even better if there is two of you playing however, the one downisde to the campaign is that it is just not long enough in my opinion. it just needed more locations and levels to fight your way through. But apart from that minor down side its a great game. The fact that you can pimp your weapons help each other over obstacles and interact with your team mate e.g. hit him for being useless is great fun. Overall I give it 7.5/10. A Good Buy!
Army of Two - More Like Team America, 02 Sep 2008
Army of Two is about 2 mercernaries, Rios and Salem, who are dropped into real world hotspots (such as Iraq and Afghanistan) to resolve conflicts. There is a plot, but nothing worthy of mention, in fact the whole thing reeks of chest beating American patriotism. May work for some, but it completely turned me off.
Yet the controversial subject matter always made this an enticing prospect. The focus is very much on co-op play here, which works well and is entertaining enough.
However, single player isnt so hot. The game just doesent flow, with the majority of levels being a collection of awkward and under-developed set pieces. The 'back to back' mode would have worked much better if it could be activated randomly, the parachuting section makes terrible use of sixaxis (which mercifully can be turned off).
In addition, the graphics are underwhelming, only the menu screens have any of the typical EA presentation. Despite being able to 'pimp'your weapons, the shooting itself isnt much fun.
The aggro meter is a great innovation though, and one of the only mechanics in Army of Two that actually works.
Sadly it isnt until the later levels (like Miami International Airport) that Army of Two shows its true potential. And by then its almost much over. The ending also sets Army of Two up as a franchise, so hopefully the sequel will develop these good ideas more intelligently.
Brilliant game, 04 Aug 2008
Army of Two is a brilliant game, buy it!!! Even two player is good, especially with HD. I havent tried it on the Xbox 360 but i think it will still be really good on it

Product Description
It may be the game that popularised the whole concept of first person shoot `em-ups set during World War II, but as the years have gone by, the Medal of Honor series has found itself besieged by more and more copycats trying to offer ever more realistic simulations of the era. This is the first Medal of Honor game made specifically for the next generation of consoles though and finds you taking the roles of both pathfinder Eddie La Point and Private Boy Travers - paratroopers in the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division. As such, you'll end up with a whistle stop tour of enemy hotspots in Sicily, France, Holland and Germany. The game takes its paratrooper motif serious too as the game levels are big enough that you actually have some control over where exactly you land and as a consequence what tactics you choose to employ. The game also tries to give you as much freedom as possible with the weapons you use, with each being customisable with authentic parts which you can find during missions. Even the missions are as open ended as possible, as you're given up to a dozen objectives, of which only a few have to be tackled in any sort of order. One side benefit this creates is that the developers have been forced to drastically improve the enemy artificial intelligence so that they can react intelligently to your attacks, instead of just relying on the pre-scripted movements of the earlier games. There's also a stronger tactical element than ever before as you monitor the back and forth of battle between all the forces on the map. As over-familiar as WWII shooters have become, there looks to be enough new ideas here to keep even the most jaded virtual soldier happy. HARRISON DENT

5/5, 30 Oct 2008
Turn the lights off and the volume up on a big hdtv and this is probably the scariest game ever. Like being in a horror movie.
OK OK OK , 17 Nov 2008
4 stars at the new price, 3 at full price :-)

i found this game to be great, i think the open play is the best thing this game has to offer though letting you decide in which order you want to complete your objectives, a few more levels would of made this game an absolute 10 out of 10 but still a good game overall
Keep moving nothing good to see here, 31 Jul 2008
Being a big fan of FPS games on any format I purchased this hoping that the Medal of Honor series was finaly back on track (the last few console ones have been dire) Unfortunately after clogging up nearly 5GB of my PS3 hardrive with an install I was greeted by a truly shocking frame rate, slow unresponsive controls and enemy AI that can see you around corners and through walls. The parachute drops at the beginning of the levels is a great idea and really does open up the various levels allowing you a great deal of freedom, however with the AI seeming able to see you and track you anywhere stealth is non-existent. Youre weapons are truly inefective, sure not all games need COD4 levels of realisim but a full machine gun clip to take out one guy is not only annoying but stupid.
In all I find it impossible to recommend this game so for your own sake avoid...you have been warned
